Announcing the NYC premiere of ((audience))!

BIG NEWS! On Saturday, June 5 ((audience)) will be hosting its (informal) New York City premiere at Ramiken Crucible, a new underground gallery / venue in Chinatown. Big thanks to Mike Egan for the opportunity and enthusiasm.

Conceived in 2006, ((audience)) is an unprecedented project that explores the cinema as a 21st century concert hall. The centerpiece of ((audience)) is a 2 ½ hour “film” of 5.1 surround sound works by eight international artists intended for presentation in movie theaters as “cinema in the dark.” Curators Alexis Bhagat and Lauren Rosati are very happy to announce the NYC premiere of ((audience)) at Ramiken Crucible, kicking off with the 2009 ((audience)) main program and a concert of experimental noise.

From 12 – 6pm, ((audience)) will screen its main program. Presented  “in the dark” with full 5.1 surround sound, this immersive experience in cinematic audio will feature works by: Jamie Allen; Bryan Jacobs; the Loud Objects; Simona Brinkmann; Uli Schuster; Natasha Barrett; Emmanuel Madan and Anna Friz; and Cedric Maridet.

((audience)) is dedicated to the advancement of aural arts by providing wide distribution and new contexts for works by emerging and established sound artists and composers. In keeping with this mission, from 9pm – midnight, several experimental bands (TBA) will take to the stage. Stay tuned for updates.

Ramiken Crucible is located on Clinton and East Broadway in New York City. The entrance is in the black box on the southeast corner of the intersection (go down the stairs!)

Take the F to East Broadway.
